SAN DIEGO — Wide receiver Malcom Floyd of the San Diego Chargers has said this season will be his last.

Floyd, who remains quarterback Philip Rivers’ top downfield threat, has been playing for the Chargers since 2004.

“I’ve been fortunate to play this long,” Floyd said. “This will probably be, I hope my best year, top of my prime before I start to taper off.

“I kind of want to save it for my kids, you know. It’s a dangerous sport. I really do want to save it for my kids. First of all, I do owe this city my body and a championship, so I’m going all in.

“My chips are all in this year.”

–Safety Eric Weddle boycotted all of the OTA workouts, upset that the team isn’t going to extend his contract, which is in its final season. Weddle is expected to practice next week during the mandatory three-day minicamp.

–The Chargers announced that LaDainian Tomlinson will have his No. 21 retired on Nov. 22 during a game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Tomlinson, the 2006 NFL MVP, set or tied 28 records in his 11 seasons with the club. He is the fourth Charger to have his number retired, joining Lance Alworth (No. 19), Dan Fouts (No. 14) and Junior Seau (No. 55).

“What a humbling day,” said Tomlinson, who works for the NFL Network. “So many memories and thoughts run through my mind at this moment that I am at a loss for words. How can you explain getting your number retired and being honored in this way?”

–The City of San Diego is aiming toward a Dec. 15 vote in regard to helping fund a Chargers stadium in Mission Valley, where the team’s current home, Qualcomm Stadium, is located.

The ballot could ask voters if they are in favor of approximately $600 million in public funds being used to keep the team in San Diego.

The Chargers also are pursuing a stadium in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson with the Oakland Raiders that requires little public financing.
