Jim Irsay Wants Hilton Deal Done Soon

Published

on

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay spoke with reporters during the team’s open minicamp at Lucas Oil Stadium Wednesday night. Irsay preached patience regarding Robert Mathis’ recovery and touched on a few other topics as well, including the soon-to-be decided futures of a few pillars of his franchise: T.Y. Hilton and Andrew Luck. Rest easy, Colts fans. Irsay said those two aren’t going anywhere. Hilton, one of the league’s most promising young receivers, is entering the finalyear of his four-year rookie contract. Without an extension, he could hit the open market next spring. Irsay said the Colts are working to make sure that doesn’t happen. “We know we’re going to get him done and he’s going to be here for a very long time,” Jim Irsay on Andrew Luck deal “We’d like to make some progress, possibly get something done sooner than later,” he said. “It obviously takes both sides to come to a compromised agreement, so to speak. I think we’re optimistic, obviously. My belief, and our team’s belief, Ryan (Grigson) and Chuck (Pagano) as well, is draft great players and keep great players. We’ve kept great players into their second contract. Obviously, Reggie (Wayne), Robert, (Dwight) Freeney, the list is long. We want to be able to do that.”
