Packers sign WR Montgomery

The Green Bay Packers reached an agreement with third-round draft pick Ty Montgomery, according to reports Wednesday.

The signing of the wide receiver from Stanford leaves just first-rounder Damarious Randall to sign to complete the Packers’ eight-man draft class. Randall, a defensive back out of Arizona State, was the 30th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

The Packers envision the 6-foot-, 221-pound Montgomery making his biggest impact as a rookie returner. Possessing a vaunted combination of strength and speed, Montgomery is a natural to step in and bolster Green Bay’s lackluster kick returns. He ran back a combination of five kickoffs and punts for touchdowns in his four seasons at Stanford.

“I think I can compete anywhere, at any point in time,” Montgomery told FOX Sports. “It’s nothing against any of the other guys that are here. But we’re all competitors. As far as my role, I can’t tell you what my role is going to be. I don’t necessarily determine that. I’m going to be prepared to be able to go whenever and wherever the coaching staff decides to put me.”
