Lions sign DE Wootton

The Detroit Lions signed defensive end Corey Wootton to a one-year contract on Thursday.

Wootton, a fourth-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears in 2010, played four years in Chicago and spent the 2014 season with the Minnesota Vikings.

Wootton has played in 60 games (22 starts) and recorded 86 tackles, 12 sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

In 15 games last season, he tallied 16 tackles and one sack.

Also on Thursday, the Lions announced the promotions of Lance Newmark to director of college scouting, Cedric Saunders to senior vice president of football operations and Scott McEwen to senior personnel executive.

Newmark is in his 18th year in the Lions’ player personnel department. He had spent the past seven seasons as the assistant director of college scouting under McEwen.

McEwen is in his 29th season with the Lions and had spent the past 12 seasons as director of college scouting.

Saunders is in his 10th year with the Lions and had served as vice president of football operations for the past seven seasons.
