2015 NFL Draft: Good and Bad Fits in the Sixth Round
Find out which picks were good fits and bad fits in the 6th round of the 2015 NFL draft.
The 2015 NFL draft has come and gone; therefore, it is time to analyze each pick with excruciating detail. As is the case every year, there are picks that are perceived as bad fits and others that are perceived as good fits. With that in mind, let’s take a look a couple of the picks that look to be good fits and some that appear to be bad fits.
Good Fits
Michael Bennett – Jacksonville Jaguars
Michael Bennett was viewed as one of the premier one-gap under tackle prospects going into the draft. Therefore, the fact that the Jaguars got him in the sixth round is nothing short of amazing. Bennett is an extremely quick defensive tackle who plays with great pad level. He is great at winning early in a play, but he needs to work on getting off blocks much more consistently. Bennett will be a great fit in the Jaguars defense and give them a fantastic rotational defensive tackle who can be extremely disruptive.
Josh Robinson – Indianapolis Colts
A player who was highly undervalued in the pre-draft process was Josh Robinson, but that should all change once he gets his chance in the NFL. Robinson is a bowling ball who displays great power, balance and vision as a running back. With defenses keying on Andrew Luck so much, Robinson should be able to be very productive when he gets his opportunities.
Andy Gallik – Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans got fantastic value with Andy Gallik in the sixth round. Gallik hard arguably the best hands out of all the center prospects and he combines that with quick feet and a good anchor. The NFL seems to undervalue centers in the draft, which has led to many late-round centers being very successful in the NFL. Gallik should just be another one of the successful late-round centers.
Bad Fits
Rakeem Nunez-Roches – Kansas City Chiefs
Rakeem Nunez-Roches was a very intriguing player with a lot of upside. However, that upside will be tempered a great deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. In the Chiefs’ 3-4 defense, Nunez-Roches will be asked to read and react in their two-gap scheme; however, Nunez-Roches’ skill set is much better suited for a one-gap team. Nunez-Roches could have developed into a very nice defensive tackle, but it’s unlikely that will happen with the Chiefs.
Anthony Chickillo – Pittsburgh Steelers
Anthony Chickillo is an extremely athletic defensive end who played in a scheme at Miami that didn’t allow him flourish. Unfortunately for him, he goes to a similar scheme with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Chickillo’s skill set appears to fit the traditional 4-3 defensive end mold, but he will be forced to play as a 3-4 defensive end instead. Chickillo’s ceiling will be a lot lower with the Steelers and for that reason this is a bad fit.
