Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome Dominated The 3rd Day Of The NFL Draft
Za’Darius Smith is great value for Ravens in the fourth round. Find out why.
The final day of the NFL Draft still provides an ample amount of talent available to clubs. Names that filled the fourth round include former Pitt Panthers tackle T.J. Clemmings and Northwestern safety Ibraheim Campbell. One of the players selected I liked most was Kentucky defensive end Za’Darius Smith.
It is usually par for course that GM Ozzie Newsome does an outstanding job during the NFL Draft, which coincides with the Baltimore Ravens being a playoff contender in seven out of the last nine years which includes a Super Bowl title. Newsome continued his magic getting Smith, who elevated his game during at both the East-West Shrine Game and Senior Bowl. He looked so good at the Shrine game that it pole-vaulted him into the Senior Bowl and eventually to the NFL Scouting Combine.
Smith is an athletic 6-foot-6, 263 pound defensive end who registered 120 tackles and 10.5 sacks the last two season with the Wildcats. The former Juco transfer (East Mississippi Community College) played mostly at defensive end, but also is well versed standing up off the edge. It will be a unique transition to see how he fits in the scheme of things in Baltimore and possibly a move to him to outside linebacker.
