Jaguars Select Dante Fowler With 3rd Overall Pick- Full NFL Draft Analysis

Find out our expert analysis on the Jaguars foregoing Leonard Williams and selecting Florida’s Dante Fowler, Jr.

The Jacksonville Jaguars looked past former USC defensive end Leonard Williams and selected former Florida Gators defensive end Dante Fowler.

Football Insiders will have immediate analysis on every single pick from the first three rounds of the draft, and most of Rounds 4-7.

“The Jaguars went with need and fit over best player available with Dante Fowler over Leonard Williams.  Fowler is a relentless pass rusher who ran an impressive 4.60 40-yard dash.  He will fit well playing the Jaguars Leo position as he is the best edge rusher in this draft.  I would’ve selected Williams with the pick.” – Charlie Bernstein

“Dante Fowler is the best pure pass rusher in the NFL draft and fills a huge need for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Gus Bradley knows the importance of a pass rush, and he’s has to be thrilled with the Jaguars selection. Fowler has the kind of explosiveness that is needed to get to the quarterback at the NFL level and will help the Jaguars anemic pass rush immediately. Fowler joins Jameis Winston as the second Florida college product to remain in the state.”- Pat Donovan

“Just like Babe Ruth, Dante Fowler called his shot. After saying he would be “shocked” if the Jaguars did not select him with the No. 3 overall pick, Fowler saw his wish come true and was given a one-way ticket to Jacksonville. There he will play the “Leo” position and give the Jaguars someone to send after Andrew Luck and Mariota during their twice-a-year meetings. Under the guidance of defensive savant Gus Bradley, Fowler could emerge as a star.”- Michael Lombardo

“For me the pick would have been Leonard Williams, but I understand the selection of Fowler. He’s a great, explosive talent off the edge and helps the Jaguars pass defense immediately. Fowler gets to the ball fast and makes a Jacksonville defense that was already pretty solid even better. I continue to love what Gus Bradley and co. are building there in Jax.” – Devon Jeffreys

“Dante Fowler is a perfect fit for Gus Bradley’s defensive scheme in Jacksonville. I still believe Leonard Williams is the best available player in the draft — and was when the day began — but this is a perfect marriage of player and style. The Jags may finally be moving in the right direction.” – Alex Hickey
