Lions to pick up Reiff’s ’16 option

Detroit Lions general manager confirmed the team intends to pick up the fifth-year option on left tackle Riley Reiff before the March 3 deadline to do so on 2012 first round picks.

Reiff has started 31 games over the past two seasons, but has failed to live up to his No. 23 overall pick status and there had been some question as to whether his options for 2016 worth around $8 million would be picked up.

“Yes, we’re definitely going to do his fifth-year option and have him for a fifth year,” Mayhew said Friday. “We anticipate getting that paperwork done sometime soon.”

There is potential for Reiff to move back to the right side depending upon what the Lions do in next week’s draft.
